The Make-A-Wish Foundation of BC & Yukon has one simple mission – to grant the wish of every eligible child, aged 3 to 17, living with a critical illness in our territory. We have been in existence for 36 years and have granted over 2,100 wishes in that time. Worldwide, Make-A-Wish is in over 50 countries and has granted over 480,000 wishes. We at Make-A-Wish are proud to be the largest wish granting organization in the world.
We’re often asked why wishes matter. The answer is quite simple. A wish has the power to change the life of a child living with a critical illness. Children in your community – your neighbour’s daughter, your son’s best friend at school, or someone close to your own heart. Most of us can’t begin to imagine what these young people and their families go through: lengthy hospital stays, overwhelming medication schedules, time away from loved ones and friends, procedures, operations, fear, anxiety, uncertainty. Make-A-Wish offers these children an opportunity to dream, and dream BIG. A chance to return to their childhoods, if only for a day, and embrace the notion that anything is possible, even the future. A wish isn’t just a ‘nice to have’ it’s an essential part of their medical journey, offering hope, strength, joy and optimism during a very difficult time.
Our vision is to grant the wish of every eligible child. We're on a quest to bring every eligible child's wish to life – a goal that is born from the idea that a wish is an integral part of a child's treatment.
